An enchanting, privately owned hotel of unique charm and character, where time appears to stand still. Nestled in a picturesque bay in the South of Skye, with beautiful views over the Sound of Sleat to the distant hills of Knoydart. Eilean Iarmain captures the spirit of enchantment that belongs to the Hebrides and is renowned for its magical allure and Gaelic tradition. Built in 1888, the traditional and appealing character of Eilean Iarmain has been preserved. Its Highland charm and old world atmosphere making it the idyllic island setting for a relaxing holiday, a romantic wedding or a special celebration.
Four suites overlooking the water, each with a cosy sitting room and private doorway onto the lawn with tables and chairs – the perfect place to sit and relax with a glass of wine or a Gaelic dram and enjoy the view! Twelve bedrooms; individual in character and decoration, some with wood panelling, the odd turret and even a canopied bed from nearby Armadale Castle.
Log fires and candlelit dinners in the Birlinn Brasserie or in the wood panelled Pràban Bar, relaxed and cosy, where you can enjoy locally caught seafood, Isle of Skye Venison and Highland produce, with an excellent selection of malt whiskies and real ales to enjoy by the fireside.
We host regular evenings of live traditional music and song in a friendly cèilidh atmosphere, where guests are welcome to bring along their instrument and join in the sessions!
We are open all year, enabling visitors to experience the Isle of Skye in all its beautiful seasons.
People have been coming here for over a hundred years, drawn by a love for the beautiful landscapes and seascapes of this Hebridean Island, its geology, botany, ornithology, its rich Celtic history, culture and language. Nearby is the Gaelic University of Scotland, Sabhal Mòr Ostaig, the premier institute of Gaelic learning, music and tradition, where a variety of summer courses are held for visitors.
Located next to the hotel you will find `Pràban na Linne’, the Gaelic term for the “illicit still” on the Sound of Sleat, where you can enjoy a free tasting of the award-winning Gaelic Whiskies and purchase a bottle to take home!
Flòraidh, a boutique shop stocking fashions in traditional tweed, also has luxurious Scottish cashmere, unique printed silk as well as handmade local crafts. You won’t have to go any further for your souvenirs and gifts!
